Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) are to earn N30,000 new allowance.
This was disclosed on Friday at a workshop/ training on Freedom of Information Act for Desk Officers of the NYSC in Abuja by the Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim. He said the scheme will communicate to corps members when the payment of N30,000 new allowance would commence.
When prodded further of its take-off date, the DG said: “They will be communicated accordingly, please.”
The DG said the workshop was aimed at consolidating on the successes recorded by the scheme regarding the use of the FOIA and explained that the scheme had faced challenges, caused by “apparent lack of knowledge of our policies and operations by a section of the public.”
Ibrahim implored Nigerians to get themselves to acquainted with the NYSC Act, to better understand the operations, importance and roles of the scheme. He said: “Since the enactment of the Freedom of Information Act in 2011, the NYSC has been in the forefront of ensuring total compliance with the provisions of the Act.”
Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, enthused that the scheme had Freedom of Information (FOI) community development service groups for corps members laden with the role of assisting in sensitizing members of the public on the FOI Act.
